Cube Optic`s Miniature Wavelength Management Modules Pass Outside Plant Testing |
| |
|
Mainz, Germany – April, 2006 – Cube Optics AG of Mainz Germany has released its new line of miniature wavelength management modules. In accordance with the Telcordia GR1221 standard, the components under test had been configured for telecom ITU Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) and fully satisfied the Uncontrolled Environment specification. Results confirm excellent operating endurance from -40°C to +85°C including the associated temperature cycling, storage, humidity, shock, vibration and cable retention testing. The detailed report is available from Cube Optics upon request.
In addition to being an established presence with telecom and datacom OEMs and Carriers, Cube Optics is a certified vendor to OEMs serving fiber sensing, medical, security and test and measurement markets. These miniature wavelength management products are routinely applied to distributed RAMAN temperature sensing, hazard detection and avoidance, video security surveillance, natural resource detection and monitoring as well as certain defense uses.
Cube Optics employs thin film filter technology in highly compact designs to package high-performance optics into ultra-dense configurations. The flexible structure of the optical design allows for the simple and quick adaptation of filters and other optical elements extending from 1700 nm all the way to visible wavelengths. Integration of optical sources, detectors, temperature control platforms and even chip level electronics enable realization of very compact and robust multi-wavelength optoelectronic subassemblies. Custom optical ports addressing tap / monitor options, wavelength add / drop functions and wavelength by-pass “express” channels are generally easily accommodated.
Performance of the new product line is outstanding: insertion loss for an eight wavelength (channel) module from -20C to +85C is typically 1.6 dB with corresponding link loss values of less than 2.9 dB. Neighboring channel isolation of beyond 90 dB, a parameter of great importance in sensor applications, is regularly achieved in commercial devices. Channel uniformity across eight wavelengths with 20 nm spacing is typically better than 0.3 dB.
The small footprint dimensions of the 4-channel or 8-channel components measure 24mm long x 19mm wide x 9mm high with all fibers leaving one end of the laser welded stainless steel case. This extremely compact and convenient form factor allows optimization of the mounting layout and fiber management.
Cube Optics’ components and modules excel where small form factor, simple and cost-effective integration and robust high reliability performance are required. All of Cube Optics’ wavelength management devices are 100% RoHS compliant.
